After you allow them an opportunity to explain their reasoning and feelings, tell them that though they may already know your opinion as a parent on this issue, you still want to share the reasons why you think teens should not participate in this type of intimacy. Asking questions about sex does not automatically mean that your teen is thinking about having sex. I tell them to be patient, and not feel stress or pressure to experience everything at once. There are negative social consequences to having sex as an adolescent. The more familiar this topic is as an open dialogue between a mom and daughter, the easier it will be.
